At present, the Fire Prevention Division is comprised of fourteen Fire Inspectors, a Public Information Coordinator, three Public Fire and Life Safety Educators, a Chief Fire Prevention Officer, an Assistant Chief Fire Prevention Officer and two clerical staff.

The normal working and office hours are from 08:00 hours until 17:00 hours daily with the exception of weekends and statutory holidays. There is always an "on-call" inspector available twenty-four hours a day, all year long, to handle fire investigations or emergencies.

One of the inspectors is designated as a plans examiner to review blueprint drawings and do site inspections of new construction, involving interior fire safety equipment required by the Ontario Building Code.

The Fire Inspectors conduct regular fire safety inspections of all types of occupancies as defined by the Ontario Building Code. These inspections are carried out under the provisions of the Ontario Fire Code/Fire Marshal's Act.  By enforcing the Fire Code, inspectors may spend some of their time making court appearances.

Inspectors carry out investigations of incendiary fires, explosions and fire fatalities. They respond to and resolve citizen complaints regarding fire safety concerns and are very active in public education and other projects within the community.

The Division also provides the necessary training and support for the In-Service inspection program that is currently being performed by Fire Fighting Crews.
